Pigmentation
in our skin is as a result of an excess production of melanin.
These lesions can be congenital (present since birth) or acquired
(develop later in life). Some of the most common pigmented
lesions are often referred to as ‘age spots’ and
are as a result of sun damage.
How does it work?
Certain wavelengths of light are well absorbed
by melanin. Depending on the type of lesion being treated,
Green or Yellow Intense Pulsed Light will cause thermal (heat)
damage to the structures, causing an initial darkening of
the lesion followed by a gradual fading as they are shed
from the skin through the process of keratinisation. Lasers
can be used to mechanically ‘break up’ the lesions
causing them to fade.
How long does it take?
Session times vary according to the area being
treated and the method of treatment, but a 30 minute appointment
is usual.
How many treatments will I need?
This can again depend upon the type of lesion
being treated and its cause, however, between 2 and 6 treatments
is the average. |
When will I see results?
When a pigmented lesion has been treated using
IPL you should expect to see an initial darkening of the lesion
followed by a gradual fading over the next couple of weeks
as the outermost skin cells are shed. Where a laser has been
used, the area may form a crust after a few days which will
be shed naturally leaving a faded, or occasionally a cleared,
area of pigmentation.
Can anyone have this treatment?
Laser treatment for pigmented lesions is suitable
for most skin types although, due to the nature of the treatment,
it is generally more effective on fairer skins. We can only
treat clients over 18 years of age. There are some contraindications
for all laser/IPL treatments. Please click here for more information.
How much does it cost?
Pigmented lesion therapy starts from £60
per session (please see prices for details). For a more
accurate quotation please call us on 01482 634984 to make an
appointment for your free, no obligation consultation. |
